Heritage Scrapbooking Date Change

Because the first Sunday in April is Easter and the GFO will be closed, we have changed our Heritage Scrapbooking group to Sunday, April 11th from 3 to 5 p.m. The time change is for the 11th only and is due to another group having the 1 to 3 p.m. time slot on the second Sunday.
Although our planned speaker is not able to make it that day, I have recently acquired a book called "Uncovering Your Ancestry Through Family Photographs" by Maureen Taylor. I'll put together a little program of the first chapter entitled "Bringing the Past to Life"
which shows us why, as genealogists, it is as important for us to compile a visual history of our families as it is written information.
If you can join us, please let me know.

Thanks,
Bonnie LaDoe

GFO IRISH INTEREST GROUP; MARCH 20

Hi Everyone,
All are invited to join in the fun this coming Saturday at our annual St. Patrick's day celebration.
You are welcome to bring a treat if you would like. Should you have any questions please contact April Ober at 503-253-5754 or obiex2@teleport.com .
I shall be unable to attend and Shirley Hurrell has agreed to be your moderator for this meeting only.
Have fun on Saturday!
Now that it is time for me to step down as your moderator, I wish to once again, thank those of you who have always been there with your support and assistance in providing quality programs over these past eight years.

Tom O'Brien

GFO's British Group

TO: Members and future members of the GFO's British Group

SUBJECT: COMING EVENTS

MARCH 27th: Doris Cruickshank and Gwen Newborg are going to share helpful resources and ideas they learned when the attended the "British Institute Week in Salt Lake City"

MAY 22nd: Last meeting of the year...possibly a guest bag piper to explain his dress and equipment, list some of the events they play for....and of course, Snacks of our Ancestors. If we can't get a piper, maybe we can persuade our Duane Funk to come up with a topic of interest for May.

ANNUAL FIELD TRIP: Any suggestions would be appreciated....something with a British slant? Some folks had a conflict when we went to Lady Di's in Lake Oswego for the tea lunch special, and said they would like to have attended. That's a possibility. Also, if we could plan something to get us back to Oregon City and do luncheon afterwards at the Highland Still House Pub--great food--Fish and Chips, Bangers and Mash, Beef Pasties, etc..that would be nice.

GFO Computer Interest Group

The Computer Interest Group meeting will be a week late this month, as the presenter, Rex Bosse, is busy with his son's wedding the next 10 days.
On March 23, at 7:00 PM, we will take a look at a free alternative to Microsoft Office, called Open Office. I'll have the latest version of MS Office on a laptop, as well as Open Office, and we can compare operations and features of the 2 programs. Both programs have document, database, spreadsheet and presentation programs. We can look at highlights this meeting, with more information at a later meeting if there is specific interest.
As a good, low cost (free) alternative to MS Office, this is ideal for those of us on shrinking, or shrunken, budgets, and Open Office also has more of the look and feel of the older versions of Office, so the transition may be easier than learning the "New" Microsoft product.
A year ago, I started using a program that captures an entire webpage to my computer, allowing me to review the page whenever I wish. I would like to show that to the group at a future meeting, as well as some add-on clipboard programs that make my life easier. If anyone has other requests, please mention them to Marty or me and we'll try to feature them at a meeting.

Thanks!
See you on the 23rd,
Rex
