Bring a picnic and a blanket and come enjoy this 30 acre arboretum in the heart of SE Portland while learning about the City of Portland Urban Forestry program and the Lone Fir Pioneer Cemetery . Visit the three heritage trees being dedicated by Commissioner Fish: the lone Douglas fir for which the cemetery was named, the General Lane maple, and a 100-ft-tall cedar. Metro Council President David Bragdon invites you to stay and enjoy featured artists from the Lone Fir Cemetery CD “Dearly Departed” and then watch the screening of the documentary “Come Together Home” by Ivy Lin. Come learn about the early Chinese settlers and rail workers who were interned and later disinterred at Lone Fir Cemetery and the plans for a memorial park on the sacred site known as Block 14.
Schedule of Events:
6:30-7pm Heritage tree dedication
7pm – 8:45pm live music, tours & entertainment
9pm – 10:30 pm "Come Together Home" screening
Synopsis-

Block 14 in Lone Fir Cemetery, the first Chinese burial ground in Portland—and site of as many as 1,500 burials—now stands as a fenced off void of gravel after most of the remains were exhumed and shipped back to China in 1928 & 1949.

Sixty years later, Director Ivy Lin follows the footsteps of the missing 1949 shipment in an extraordinary journey from Portland to Hong Kong.

GFO COMPUTER INTEREST GROUP, JUNE 21st

We will discuss "off-site" storage of digital files, primarily focusing on places to store digital files on a "public" computer. This has a dual benefit of backing up your files, and making them available away from home, on any computer with internet access.
Have any of you ever lost files when your computer crashed? Do you wish there was a simple place you could back up those files and digital family photographs, that was away from your home, so you could retrieve them if needed and not loose them in a drawer or a stack of unsorted CD's? Well, there are LOTS of places you can store
important files, and we'll talk about some of them at the CIG on June 21st at 7 p.m. If you already use a photo sharing site, or a file storage site, bring some screen shots that we can look at, or log on to your site from a computer during the evening and share your information with us.
