New Index: Little Chapel of the Chimes

In 1990, the Little Chapel of the Chimes ran an advertising supplement in the Oregonian newspaper showing photos of the original Little Chapel on North Killingsworth Street in Portland, and then expanding to the Little Chapel in Gateway area. The next location for the Little Chapel was on North Lombard, and then the “newest” Little Chapel opened in the Sunnyside area.

The supplement included a list of all the persons they had cared for in their 71 years of service to the community. The list, with the year in which they passed on, is given in this database. We do not have further information to offer at the Forum. We hope this list will assist you to locate further documents on your ancestors.

TMG SUG JANUARY 16TH -THIS SATURDAY

The Master Genealogist Software Users Group will be having their bi-monthly meeting this Saturday in the Higgins Room starting at 9:30 and going till about noon.
This month's educational topic will be an introduction to the companion product "Second Site" which has just gone to version 3x. An introduction is about all that can be covered in a single meeting, but if there are specific questions then they are welcome. If time remains, general questions and answers about TMG will be fielded.
No snow or ice are predicted, so come on down to the Forum. The Irish Interest Group has a nice program in line for the afternoon as well.

GFO DNA Interest Group- Tomorrow

Greetings,

The DNA Interest Group will meet tomorrow, January 12th at 1:00 to 2:30 in the Higgins Room

I will go over the Basics of Genetic Genealogy and give out a $30 gift cert. toward a test at Family Tree DNA. It's a free raffle.

If you are a member of ISOGG, just bring a friend to be eligible for the drawing. Otherwise, if you join ISOGG (non-profit org that requires no dues, etc....just to let people know about DNA testing and genealogy) you are eligible for the drawing as well.

We will also briefly discuss 23andMe, a new testing company which tests parts of all your chromosomes to find you cousins or to let you know some health information. This company allows you to find matches on your pedigree chart that are not just he all male line (top line) or the all female line (bottom line). I have already found a common ancestor with one tester.

The 23andMe company will be discussed in depth at our next meeting in April by Tim Jansen.

See you there!
Emily

THE GFO WRITERS' FORUM

Hi Writers,

Start the year off right! Jump start your writing!

The Writers' Forum will meet on Saturday January 9th, from 11:45 a.m.
until 1:45 p.m. at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. We meet the second Saturday of each month.

Everyone is welcome, whether you have participated before or not. This is your chance to get started writing or improve your writing, whether you are writing for yourself, for others, or plan to enter the GFO writing contest this year.

We learn about good writing techniques -- write and read what we write to each other. Without exception, everyone who has participated in this group over the last five years writes better than they did when they started.

This year we are working with Roy Peter Clark's Writing Tools: 50 Essential Strategies for Every Writer published by Little, Brown and Company in 2006.
Each year we work with a book, but this particular book is making more difference In our writing than any other book we've worked with. We'll be working with Writing Tool 12 Workshop: "Prefer the Simple over the Technical"
this Saturday.

Bring your lunch if you would like.

Peggy
