Master Genealogist Users' Group

The Master Genealogist Software Users Group will be having their bi-monthly meeting this Saturday November 20th in the Higgins room starting at 9:30 and going till noon. We will be discussing DNA data and how to enter that information into the program. We will also take a look at "Skype", the program that allows people to communicate via voice and video over the Internet. And as usual, we will probably discuss spontaneous questions from attendees.

If you use the program or if you're curious about it please attend. All are welcome.

GFO WRITERS' FORUM SATURDAY 13th

Hello Aspiring Writers,

The Writers' Forum will meet on Saturday, November 13th, from 11:45 a.m.
until 1:45 p.m. at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon. We meet the second Saturday of each month.

Everyone is welcome, whether you have participated before or not. This is your chance to get started writing or improve your writing, whether you are writing for yourself, for others, or plan to enter the GFO writing contest this year.

We learn about good writing techniques -- write and read what we write to each other. Without exception, everyone who has participated in this group over the last six years writes better than they did when they started.

This year we are working with Roy Peter Clark's Writing Tools: 50 Essential Strategies for Every Writer published by Little, Brown and Company in 2006.
Each year we work with a book, but this particular book is making more difference In our writing than any other book we've worked with. We'll be working with Tool 16 Workshop: "Riff on the Creative Language of Others"
this Saturday.

Bring your lunch if you would like.

GFO ILLINOIS INTEREST GROUP

November 13th is the next Illinois Interest Group Meeting... (9:30-11:30 in the Higgins Room) And this time we will have a ³show and tell² event.

I¹m counting on you to bring something that would make a nice genealogy gift for someone. (Not to give them that day...just to show them what could be
done.)

No, you don¹t have to create it between now and then...
You could bring something you have already made, or someone made for you.
You could bring a small sample of something you could make.
You could think of just the right thing.
Visuals are better for show and tell tho.

One of our friends is going to bring the quilted wall hanging she made for her father¹s 90th birthday.

One of our friends will bring a photo...or a pedigree chart...or a family group sheet...that shows what you could do easily. (Well, fairly easily.)

One of our friends in Illinois will send a sample of book pages that you could make.

You could bring your version of the above...because they will not be the same. Several different ones would help people see the possibilities. Or you could bring something else entirely.

We all have different ³artsy² skills...even if it is being able to take a document to Kinkos for copying.

Maybe you can write a poem, or a song.

Maybe you can sew, or knit, or crochet.

Maybe you can draw or paint.

Maybe you can tell stories of the past.

If we all bring something in that we have given to someone that we wanted to share our genealogy with...
or that we think we¹d like to give sometime...
We can have a great show and tell day.

We¹ll have fun sharing our things...and you will go home with some new ideas.
But we all have to contribute something if it¹s going to work. What can you bring?

Are you understanding the premise here? If not write and ask me and we¹ll talk about it.

It will be a day worth coming for...and if you can make it related to your Illinois folks, so much the better!

I hope someone will write down about what¹s there so that I can know too...
Kristy
