GFO IRISH INTEREST GROUP, SAT. SEPT 19TH

Hi Everyone,

* You are invited* to the meeting of the Irish Interest Group on Saturday, September 19, 2009 from 1 to 3 pm.
Higgins Room at the Genealogical Forum of Oregon

Carol Fisher has arranged for a very interesting speaker, Paul Lyons, to share his knowledge and personal slides with us.

He will be telling us about "The Megalithic Passage Tomb at Newgrange, County Meath". It is a /World Heritage Site/ located about 45 minutes North of Dublin and was built about 3200 BC.

I have spoken with Paul and it promises to be a great meeting. He is a very knowledgeable individual, and an Irish citizen as well.

GFO'S ILLINOIS INTEREST GROUP, SEPTEMBER 12

The Illinois Interest Group will be back in action on Saturday, September 12th. The topic will be IRAD in Illinois.

In case you are in the large group of people who do not know about IRAD...
it stands for "Illinois Regional Archives Depositories" and is the gift of the State of Illinois to the Genealogy & History researchers of the world.Choose the right IRAD and place a phone call or a letter (for some reason they have not mastered emails), and that will do the trick. Call and ask for the information you need. They will tell you what the chances are, seek it out for you, and mail it to you. If copies must be made, they will send you a bill (which will not exceed $5 without an OK from you ahead of time.)

I hope that you are now intrigued. I also hope that, if you think IRAD might be of help to you, you will come to the meeting. It may be that "your"
state, even if not Illinois, would have records you should be searching out...if you only knew they existed...so you could find out about such records by listening to the kinds of records that Illinois has.

Just show up at 9:30 in the Higgins Room and you will be welcomed in. Leave your name and email address...or write to to ask questions or get on the Illinois Interest mailing list.

The speaker for the day will be Harlene Patterson, our intrepid organizer

New Year, New Ideas, New Info on your Family Tree
Program: JGSO's meeting is designed to get us all off to a good research start in 5770. First, some of our members who attended the conference in Philadelphia this summer will talk about the new resources that were announced and the presentations that they found most helpful and enlightening. We encourage you all to submit your research problems/dilemmas/questions to: Barbara.hershey@comcast.net, in advance. You may bring questions to the meeting, but having the questions in advance will provide more time for us to try and find answers.

Time: 6:30 pm doors open for schmoozing; program will start at 7:00 pm.
