About our Program:
Face Recognition technology can help you identify and tag people in your photos, discover related people and recover lost family connections. MyHeritage makes use of this technology as an excellent tool for genealogy research.
About our Speaker:
Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela. Graduate from "Moral y Luces Herzl-Bialik" high school. Daniel received his BS.c. in computer engineering with specializations in education & management of educational institutions. He returned to his Jewish day school as a computer instructor & teacher/director of the genealogy project "Searching for My Roots," for which he created the educational materials. He also presented genealogy workshops for students and parents. Daniel received awards for this project including the "Gonzalo Benaim Pinto" Venezuela national award. Daniel’s students received 9 consecutive awards (1997-2005) at the "Beit Hatfutsot / Museum of the Diaspora" international annual competition: "My Family Story". He is a founding member and lecturer of the Jewish Genealogy Society of Venezuela – AGJUVE. Daniel has resided with his family in Israel since 2005. Currently he is a member and webmaster of the Israel Genealogical Society (IGS) and the Horowitz Families Association. Daniel has lectured at various International Conferences as well as at local genealogy groups. Daniel has working at MyHeritage, a site you can review on line at www.myheritage.com. In 2008 Daniel was elected to the Board of the International Association of Jewish Genealogical Societies.
Admission is free to members of JGSO, $5 donation requested from non-members (can be applied to cost of membership if you join at the time).

GFO'S BRITISH INTEREST GROUP, MAY 22
British Group interested friends,
This coming Saturday-May 22, the British Group meets in the Higgins Room at 1 p.m.
Doris Cruickshank will set up her FindMyPast program, explain it, and do requests on it(see below for features). Also, it is our last meeting of the year and it is time for the "Snacks of Our Ancestors". We still have a future field trip on tap for this summer when temps are warmer. All GFO members are invited who have ancestors from England, Scotland, Wales, and Scot-Irish. (The Irish have their own separate GFO group.)

THE GFO COMPUER INTEREST GROUP MONDAY, MAY 17th,
The Computer Interest Group will meet this Monday night at 7 pm.

GFO's ALL-NIGHTER SATURDAY, MAY 15th
Time has come once again for the All-Nighter.
So rest up, and join us at the Forum Library for an uninterrupted night's research on the 15th.
Doors will open at 6 p.m. on the 15th, and we'll stay (if you so chose) until 6 a.m. the next day.
There will be snacks and midnight pizza included.
Cost is $15. per person.

TMG-SUG Meeting Saturday, May 15th at 9:30 a.m.
Hello everyone!
The bi-monthly meeting of the Master Genealogist Software Users Group will be this coming Saturday. The educational focus will actually be a re-run of the March meeting--"The Use of Witnesses and Roles and Custom Sentence Construction." There were four people at the meeting besides myself. Neither I,or anyone else could get the program to make the necessary constructs. We will revisit those issues at the next meeting with a solution.
And as always, being the core focus of our group, we welcome questions about using the program. So come and bring your questions or bring your expertise!

Shirley Hurrell will speak on the topic of the Irish in Argentina.

GFO ILLINOIS GROUP MAY 8th
FLOOSIES, CHARLATANS, & SCOUNDRELS
WHERE TO LOOK FOR THAT VERY ELUSIVE ANCESTOR
If you work on your family genealogy long enough, the chances of coming across an ancestor that cannot be found is at least 99%. It may be a Great-great-grandpa, a long ago Aunt, or a distant cousin, but somewhere there is someone who has just "gone missing". Or perhaps you can find Aunt Mabel's husband, but his parents appear to be non-existent.
At the Illinois Interest Group Meeting on Saturday, May 8th, the topic will be How Can You Find Someone Who Seems to Disappear? Of course, -your- ancestor was not a Scoundrel, but maybe that Uncle on "the other" side was.
When you cannot find them, you often have to look everywhere in order to be successful.
So join the group by arriving at the Higgins Room, GFO, at 9:30 am on Saturday, May 8th. We will be waiting to see you there. By 11:30 am, when we leave the room, you will know lots of places to look, whether that ancestor turns out to have caused mayhem, or is just hiding in plain sight.
